Why do they "Suck"? Right now I have Champion DP's at a cost of $10.49 per plug.

Do yourself a favor...
ignore the "splitfire" hype.
wastefire ignition system (on our cars) will tear them up.. they will, as stated above "suck"
PERSONALLY, I would ditch the champion cr.. okay.. I won't call them crap, but get an actual quality spark plug, such as the highly recommended Autolite APP764, or Motorcraft equiv.

I used Splitfires, but it was an old Ford 302 V8, the spark system in the Duratecs would burn them out, as with "regular" non double platinum spark plugs.

They are not designed for this engine and will simply wear out quickly. I've tried them out on a 4.6L Lincoln Town Car and found that they were a waste of money. Gas mileage suffered, hesitation showed up, finally, the CEL came on - misfire detected. Pulled them out, put in some Autolite Double Platinum, and all was well again.
This is one gimmick that just doesn't work right.
