ATX with the dreaded P1744
Did a dump & fill when first signs of Bang shift came on. Might have changed fluid just before actualy? Mobil-1 this and previous. Changed TSS to cure bang shift. Still bang-shifts (same as before)but only after long trips of straight freeway driving. Couple times a week. One upshift on the way home from work coming off the off ramp.
Now has code P1744.
Stays off for a while when cleared.

Is it worth trying to change the gear selector sensor? (the thing on top the trans, don't know the abrev. off hand)
Should I bother with a valve body change with 180,000 miles?
I expect to change the trans & converter if I keep the car: used or rebuilt? rebuilt from Who?
Thanks
Sav
I did some research on this.

I would get a rebuild done if required. Get it done by a reputable shop. Get references, Talk to the BBB see if they had many complaints.
A couple I know had a 94 Buick Park Ave. front wheel ATX. They had it done by some Backyardigan and it last 4 months! He charged them $1000 to do it. But........ you get what you pay for.
Be careful.
I wouldn't consider a used unit. You don't know what your getting. Unless you plan on unlaoding the car?

95 Contour GL. Bought new. BAT Sway Bars/Pioneer CD/Koni Rear Struts/Mobil Fluids. Looking for 15" alloy rims-PM me. 180,500km's so far.
