get a gas credit card, you can only really use them at that station and you need to get gas everyweek, make sure you pay in full. do this for awhile then expand to one other card for a year or two then get another if you feel the need

I did this, got a sunoco gas card because my parents were in good standing with their account. I used that for a year or two and when I finally applied for my first credit card i got double the minimum amount they said one could get. i got another card from a different company about a year or so later and with in the year had my limit doubled, and I have always payed in full every month, but then again I also just started paying on my school loan this year also ...

i ended up with 4 cc also, two gas cards and one visa and one mastercard ... payed in full every month

I did almost the same thing. I have 4 credit cards and I use them all. I almost never pay cash for anything these days. It makes it easy for me to track what I am spending if I charge it. Pay them off totally at the end of every month. My car insurance now looks at credit rating, so I am happy with my current score =)
