No more dealers allowed to touch my car, i will fix it myself. As you guys know, i just bought my car about 2 weeks ago from a dealer. well 2 days later my waterpump went and had that repaired under warranty. well when i come out from work today and there is a good sized puddle of oil under my car, so i check oil and it is still safe to drive home. well i get home jack it up( used frame, don't trust jack points yet) and behold some yahoo left the oil filter loose. i got almost a full turn with my bare hand. I thought dealers hired top notch mechanics. so i tightened it up and vow to never go back there. thanks for your attention if you took then time to read my rant

Welcome to my world. Dealers never ever hire top notch mechanics. They might hire one or two ASE qualified guys and the rest are "apprentices".

This is typical of the sloppy work I get from all the dealers I've done business with.

DIY!! Good for you.

Your post did not provide proof that the dealer did the oil/filter change. It could be the previous owner or one of the iffy ubes which did it before the car was traded in. An oil/filter change is not required when doing a WP change.

I don't like any shops where they don't let you atleast watch or help out touch my car. Only 2 people are allowed to touch my car, other than me,without my supervision, and both are my highly trusted mechanic friends, who have yet to let me down.

Usually ends up being cheaper for you also, esp. if you search this forum before doing it yourself. Plus, you will prob. take a little more time making sure things are done right than some mechanics will.

i bought the car two weeks ago and the dealer did their what inspection and when i got the car the oil was brand new . What person changes the oil on a car before they trade it in for a new car. I think at that point they stop thinking about maintience. so It would be very reasonable to assume the dealer changed the oil. better yet http://www.swiftindavis.com/sblog/index.php?itemid=304
there is what they do and it includes oil change.

Sorry to hear that!

I have heard some bad stories when people take their cars to dealers.

Personally I've never heard of any outfit selling a car without changing the oil, it's generally the first thing they do from my experience when they have a sale.

Dealership's are a little more haphazard at hiring techs. They don't trade off their mechanical reputation so quality isn't such a big issue.
There are a lot of 'Have a go, Joe's about too. You have to ask around what people think of them, then I like to call and ask questions that can be easily answered (not fixed, answered) over the phone. Start with something simple like diagnosing a bad blocker ring or slipping clutch and guage from their answers the basic knowledge of the guy on the phone.

Personally, I'm happy with my dealership doing work as the tech who works my car drives a pre-98 Contour too, so he's knowledgeable on some things from experience. Oddly enough, they are the only place I've tried where they actually listen when I tell them how to do something right. The backstreet mechanics especially have been VERY repulsive to listening to what I have to say,

I have had nothing but good luck with dealers. I take my car to two different dealers, depending on whether I'm at work or home. The dealer's mechanics do everything, including every oil change this car has ever had. I've never had an issue with the dealership techs. I wouldn't trust an independent mechanic. There is only one independent shop in the town I live in, and they told me they'd prefer not to touch a Contour. I think I've opened the hood of my car about twice in the last seven years I've owned it. I figure that's what I make money for....to let somebody else get their hands dirty and banged up.

Well, then you need to leave a comment on their Dodge Jeep Chrysler website telling them your experience and dissatisfaction with their service.
