I think the 307 was just something they slapped together, why I don't know As you know the 302 was only used in the Z/28's for SCCA racing, the 5 liter limit. BTW, Chevrolet didn't make the motors for anyone elses rides but their own back in the day, the way it should be. Everyone had a 350 back then, Pontiac had one in the 70's, Buick had one in the late 60's/early 70's, Olds had one from the mid 70's till the 80's and Chevrolets 350 came out in 1967. The same held true for the 400's, they came out in 1967 and Olds, Buick and Pontiac all had em and they were perf motors for the 442, GTO and GS. Chevrolets 400 didn't come out till 1970 and wasn't a perf motor, pity
Pontiac introduced it's 350 in 1968. I had a 68 Firebird with a factory 350...that I later replaced with a BB Chevy 454 LS6. Factory rated at 450hp and ~500lb but also put out more like 500hp. Mine was punched out, ballanced and blue printed, bigger valve rectangular port 427 HP heads, Stage-3 solid braket cam, etc. with an estimated 600hp and monster torque...but that's another story from a long time ago 
The 302 Z28 was one bad mother and real screamers but not sure it the HP/Torque numbers were higher then the solid cam, 11.0:1 compression 1970 350 LT-1? It was rated at 370 hp and 380 lb for the Corvette and 360 hp and 360 lb. for the 70 1/2 Comaro Z28. The 302 was factory rated at 290 hp @ 5800 rpm but later proved to produce about 350 hp @ 7000 rpm on a dyno. The mid 60's Vette 327/365 was also bad a$$ as well. A buddy of mine had one in a '67 Chevelle 4-spd, 4:11 rear that was just plain crazy. It would yank the front tires off the ground with no problem whatsoever and rev to 7500-8000 rpm. As a teenager in the late 70's we had a lot of fun with that car to say the least
