My point is that the current LS-7 in the ZO6 doesn't look any different than the LS-2 in the previous one, its all about whats inside, kinda like people
-262, 265, 267, 283, 302, 307, 327, 350, 383 and 400
Scott, you got me on one but not the other The 307 is a production motor and I believe it came out in the late 60's, but the 383 ISN'T a production motor from GM. The 383 is a 350 block w/ a .030 bore and 400 crank/rods. I'm very upset that I forgot the 307 in the list, but then again, its easy to forget, just like I forgot the 305, or should I say, we BOTH forgot the 305 so lets completely update this for everyone out there who's looking for the "master list" of Chevrolet small block power
S/B's-262, 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350 and 400
B/B's-396, 402, 427, 454
"W"/B's-348 and 409
BTW Scott I notice you have a TTA, any mods to it, drop me a PM so I don't get flammed for talking about my old car in here
Roger, Yeah...I knew that about the 383 but you can buy a 383 crate motor from GM Performance though these days, 307 was early 70's IIRC we had a '72 Chevelle with the crapy 307 dog w/3-on-the-tree. I think it was a bored out 302 IIRC...kind of like when they took the 396 and bored it out in 1970 to make the 402 commonly found in some Chevelle wagons.
The BB weren't left out since the dicussion was about Chevy SB's'
Yeah the TTA is one of my all time dream cars...aquired it last May. It was all original paint and all w/45K on the clock, garage kept since new and never driven in the winter and very little rain. Only mods so far are Scanmaster 2.1 for data logging and a 3" Aluminum MAF Pipe with a Big a$$ K&N Extreme Flow conical filter on the end. Realy woke it up...probably good for another 50hp I'll PM you to talk some more about it. Some pic's here web page

No, the 301 was actually th last Pontiac-designed V8 at GM. I think the Iron Duke was the last Pontiac engine period, though I may be wrong.

NO I/we didn't. The 301 isn't a Chevrolet motor, it was a Poncho, the 409 is a "W" block, the 502 isn't a motor found in a production GM car and its a B/B, same for the 572 Anything else you wanna know about small blocks. How about this, w/o looking it up, whats the most powerful s/b ever made by Chevrolet, pre 1972

I think it was a bored out 302 IIRC
The 302 was a factory "stroker", 283 block w/ 327 internals. I think the 307 was just something they slapped together, why I don't know As you know the 302 was only used in the Z/28's for SCCA racing, the 5 liter limit. BTW, Chevrolet didn't make the motors for anyone elses rides but their own back in the day, the way it should be. Everyone had a 350 back then, Pontiac had one in the 70's, Buick had one in the late 60's/early 70's, Olds had one from the mid 70's till the 80's and Chevrolets 350 came out in 1967. The same held true for the 400's, they came out in 1967 and Olds, Buick and Pontiac all had em and they were perf motors for the 442, GTO and GS. Chevrolets 400 didn't come out till 1970 and wasn't a perf motor, pity

Pontiac introduced it's 350 in 1968. I had a 68 Firebird with a factory 350...that I later replaced with a BB Chevy 454 LS6. Factory rated at 450hp and ~500lb but also put out more like 500hp. Mine was punched out, ballanced and blue printed, bigger valve rectangular port 427 HP heads, Stage-3 solid braket cam, etc. with an estimated 600hp and monster torque...but that's another story from a long time ago
The 302 Z28 was one bad mother and real screamers but not sure it the HP/Torque numbers were higher then the solid cam, 11.0:1 compression 1970 350 LT-1? It was rated at 370 hp and 380 lb for the Corvette and 360 hp and 360 lb. for the 70 1/2 Comaro Z28. The 302 was factory rated at 290 hp @ 5800 rpm but later proved to produce about 350 hp @ 7000 rpm on a dyno. The mid 60's Vette 327/365 was also bad a$$ as well. A buddy of mine had one in a '67 Chevelle 4-spd, 4:11 rear that was just plain crazy. It would yank the front tires off the ground with no problem whatsoever and rev to 7500-8000 rpm. As a teenager in the late 70's we had a lot of fun with that car to say the least

You guys from the mid to late 70's seemed to have better cars than I previously thought. My uncle had a '70 Chevelle 454SS when he was 16 in '75. He said that he could get the tires to spin in all 4 gears but I don't know what rear gear he had. Too bad it caught on fire.
So he took out the 454, put on new heads and a cam, and put it in a gutted '69 Camaro which he drove for a few more years. He still thinks that it was quicker than his modified C5 Z06. I wish it was that easy to swap engines these days.

Roger, off the top of my head, i'd say the 375 HP 327 available in corvettes.
