Now is a good time to keep an eye open, lots of places will start to push for Christmas deals, read those flyers you usually throw in the garbage, and Future shops and the like.

yeah cept i am seeing the opposite!

theyre selling deals with huge hard drives but than nothing else, or like a kick butt monitor but crappy celeron processor. by the time i picked out the options i really wanted - its over a grand, though the same computer was like 500 in the summer..... well i will keep the eyes peeled

Wow its like i never even posted

maby i misunderstood your requirements!

i could build you a 500 dollar machine (THATS 500 + TAX)

but what do you want to do with it?

word processing....ok
internet and Contour.org surfing....ok
CD Ripping/Encoding....ok
Downloading Mp3's and burning....ok
Games....mmmmmmm no

graphics cards are where its at buy a better GPU and yous could play some games.

thats where most of the price of my DFI machines is all GPU!

Just as an example of a 0-500 machine i put this together for you.

Since i deal in DFI,AMD and MSI it is actualy a pretty sweet setup.

DFI Lanparty UT nF3 250Gb Socket 754 122.99
AMD Sempron 3000+ 64Bit 1.8Ghz Socket 754 99.99
Kingston ValueRAM PC3200 DDR400 2 x 512MB 184-pin DIMM 125.99
MSI MS Starforce FX 5200 128 MB DDR AGP 8x 59.99
Amazing ATX Middle Tower Case w 400watt Power Supply 30.00
Western Digital 80 GB SATA Hard Drive Free
DVD ROM Drive FREE

Total Comes to 504.80 Assembled

If you want to make it a bit cheaper still you can drop down to 512 of ram for 60.00 and you could save a little more by running the onboard video chipset instead of an addon card but then the display is taking memory away from the system and drasticly reduces performance.

Shipping is extra of course, unfortunately im out of copies of windows xp home so i can't offer it BUT 129.99 gets you the SP2 version at walmart. You can load any OS you want on it. WHY ARE THE HDD AND DVD ROM FREE YOU ASK? Cause I bulk buy them and I have 20 of each in stock and its a good hook if your giving them away.

Now this aint gonna be no gaming monster but it i'll do just about anything you want it to do.

Thats about it, If your looking for a complete system (ie tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse) your gonna be in the basement for performance.

Maby you should post what you want and we can work something out!

I would stay away from MDG. They have been known for one of the worst customer service reputations out there.

Dell computers are relatively cheap. I had a Lattitude 600 for work and found it very flimsy. I now have an HP Compaq laptop that's heavy yet sturdy. All computers from IBM are now Lenovo, a Chinese company.

As with any name brand computer, you do limit yourself in the future for upgrades and such. For example, my old IBM Aptiva I'm using is maxed out of RAM at a whopping 256 MB. I can't do a DVD burner, nor can I switch to some USB 2.0 devices without taking out a modem or network card. Still, it gets the job done on my end.

If you are looking for something that gets you onto CEG, emails, and watching the occassional mpg or dvd feature, you can probably have a system built out of generic and/or name-brand components for the $500 mark. I'm sure the classified sections have used computers, as well as local computer shops that buy out leased computers.
