It's not quite that "fancy."

When the cable is broken or detached the IMRC winds it back in. The IMRC motor is moderately pulling on the cable the entire time the key is in the on position. This is part of the reason it gets so hot.
As for triggering the PCM signal. When the reel winds in the cable a set amount to reach the cable stop the cam on the reel trips a switch inside the IMRC. This is what tells the PCM the IMRC is open. The IMRC motor still pulls full strength to try and hold the IMRC open.

So with my full 3.0 swap, including valve covers, I will need to jury rig the IMRC to a spring until I pony up for a new chip? ADC never got back to me with some questions on their chip, anybody else have an economical chip that cuts out the IMRC and sets the SVT OBC up for the 3.0?

Good call. www.brenspeed.com. You can find their contact information in the site. Brent is awesome to work with, and very reasonable with his prices. You could possibly get in on the group buy for the Xcal2, if you're ready for it. If you're willing to drive to Indiana, he's having a brand new shop built with a roller dyno here in February.

Unless you're a magician I don't see how you can use the Taurus Valve covers too as they sit too high, especially the one at thre front of the car.

There are no "economy" chips out there to fix yourr problem nor would you want to waste you money on any if they existed. Economy tunes are as good as no tune.

I saw that right after he posted it but decided not to waste my time explaining why. Matter of fact I nearly didn't post this response . Oh well...

Thanks for the input, I have sent Brenspeed an email requesting info.

What is the deal on the valve covers? The 3.0 won't fit? I thought I had seen pics of them installed in CSVT's? After the fact, I know they would have been easier, but I had already spent the money on the 3.0 gaskets.

Thanks for all your expert opions here.

The 3L front valve cover has it's oil cap in a different location and won't fit with a 2.5L type UIM, IIRC. Even with a 3L UIM, I *think* it might have clearance issues with the hood.

Depending on which 3L you're using, the rear valve cover might not have the mounting points for the ignition coil pack.

I am doing a full 3.0 swap with a 2002 engine. I have adapted the 2.5 coils to fit the rear cover so my only concern would be the front oil cap. I have heard that is will clear, I am debating switching to the 2.5 covers. I could always do that after installed in the car.
