I got this PM from SVTcuervo and thought I should share it with you guys. I am in the process of ordering a Ford oem TOB, because I just dont want to take a chance on this spec TOB. Steve at tousley got one in today and it measures at only 68mm. Does anyone know what the 4cyl TOB is supposed to measure? The v6 is 78mm right?

Quote:

Well Randy...I have some news...

I've just gotten off the phone with the big guy at SPEC and there seems to be some communication problems with the insubordinates. For years I've been told that these peices are Ford OEM in a Ford boxes and today I'm told that this is untrue. The TOB is a "stock style" peice manufactured by INA. This is absolutely opposite anything I've ever been told by any of the various SPEC representatives, however it seems to hold true in current cases....

There has been discussion that this "stock style" peice is unreliable, however, I've never personally dealt with such a complaint. I recognize you concern and will be happy to assist you with anything you need...

Let me know...

Thanks

when ordering a ford OEM TOB:

Steve at Tousley ford says that ford has the catalog backwards for the Throw out bearings. You can measure them to make sure, but another way to check is the engineering code on the part. v6 TOB's end in BA and 2.0L TOB's end in AA.

And then Ford sent you a Zetec TOB. Well I'd go with the Spec. Looks identical to the Ford part to me. Look at everything I posted under Brapple's post. Warmonger and Demon have been using them with no ill reports. They are putting down the most power and have ran them for quite some time. Not worth the $80 to me. The Spec units will hold up just as well.

This question came up because of this thread. I have been researching this topic for a while. It seems like the spec one is safe, but I would rather not take my chances.

Ford never sent it to me. I had steve check the part before shipping it. He checked the part, called me, figured out the catalog problem, and will be shipping me the correct part soon.

Double troutslap for you!!!!

Yea umm pole pulled that from a post before I found out it's the same unit and posted the results AND pictures. So FU. I don't have a side. When did we start picking sides? I'm guessing this is how YOU go about gathering information. You go against whatever Terry says no matter the outcome or how foolish you look. My TOB info is based on real life inspection. Not listening to what someone else said months and years ago. You're the on that stated it's a Ford unit. Now their is hard evidence that it is a reman as terry stated contrary to what everyone else said. It sounds like no one knows for sure but Spec themselves. The units look identical to me to make up your own minds.
