try atf+3 .. my syncro was toast.. i had no choice but to continue to drive it that way until i found more money.. it helped out a lot IMHO. Eventually my TO bearing crapped out and i tore the trans out and put in a 2000 cougar trans that i dropped a torsen in. Cheap fix.. but not permanent.. TH is really the way to go from my experiences.. but if you wanna keep driving it.. try the atf+3 or the MT90 mentioned above(i have on experience with it)

If he's planning to drive the CSVT for two weeks while he has a life and needs time to figure how/where/who will drop his transaxle to ship it to Terry Haines for the LSD he wants to have installed anyway (regardless of whether he goes NA r turbo 3L) and though he will/should get the synchro upgraded by Terry when he does that, how about the guy puts in the fresh fluid for that few weeks. If it reduces the grind, he won't feel as much need to use a rental or a beater in the meantime. Yes, he'll still need a different car while TH has his trans. OK, there is a remote short term tragedy risk to the blocker. Both perspectives have valid points. This does not have to be a federal case over a blocker, though parking the car immediately is a technically correct ideal course of action. I figure you're both right but it's up to poster/owner to decide if his pragmatic/logistic priorities make things lean one way over the other for him.

On a different topic, start figuring out what you want done with your transaxle mounts/anti-roll resistors. When I had my transaxle dropped out, it was a near perfect time to install headers, but when you do a 3L swap is perfect for that also (w/ or w/o turbo which itself raises issues of which headers are used). This 'park it/try fresh fluid' is only one of a bunch of options he could be weighing now.

I see where Todd and warmonger are coming from, but you guys are all forgetting something very important you can do that cost nothing, if you are driving on a damaged syncro:

Learn to double clutch when your shifting!

I drove on my bad 3rd gear for 7 months while waiting for an opening to fix and gettting funds together. Was able to shift into 3rd w/o any grind most times by double clutching and taking it easy. Sure it sucks to shift slow, but like Todd said, you make it worse every time you grind - may as well start wrapping $20 bills around the shifter if you want to speed-shift and grind every day.

BTW - Todd what's $21 compared to $2000 for an HMS tranny? Drop in the bucket. Some ppl don't have $2000 lying around when their syncro starts to go. In the meantime why not spend $21 to make the problem easier to live with whlie getting some real money together for the trans?

And that's my point.

Come on, let him drive across in the winter. Won't the lake freeze over again this year?

j/k

I'm sorry I didn't go into much detail in my original post. The third gear doesn't grind if I treat it with kid gloves and double clutch from second, however if I double clutch from second at any modicum of speed, it still grinds a little. I got into a really bad situation with a shope in Miami that screwed me, they said they changed the fluid to the MT90 that I sent with the car. I doubt they did. I will try changing the fluid but it's not a big deal to me anyways right now. because.....I'm going to be buying a diff tour...the sig is a big hint.
