96 Tour Zetek MTX
While driving in the area of 40 to 60 mph I was getting noise from the front end that sounded to me like a wheel bearing going (humming / droning?). The sound sure sounds to me like it is coming from the passenger side, but, while the sound is there - turn to the left and it goes away - turn to the right and it remains, which would point to the drivers side.
The shop called me and said it was the passenger side?
Does this sound like the correct diagnosis?

It sounds TYPICAL of a driver's side bearing, though it doesn't have to follow the "usual" symptoms.
sometimes there is no play.. sometime the race goes bad, etc. the "oppostire sound" theory isn't always true.

i thought if the bearing is making noise it went away when load was applied to the bearing, so it while turning left the passanger bearing would be loaded and the noise would stop

normally the bearing makes noise when the weight is shifted TO the bad bearing.. yes..
which is OPPOSITE of what he stated it does: goes away on a turn that direction.
Like I said, it sounds TYPICAL of a driver's side bearing. turning left and the sound goes away... but the shop says it is passenger's and it COULD BE!! The "usual" symptom checks aren't written in stone.

Thats what I thought so I just wanted to check on here before I told them to go ahead.
Also, I had replaced the drivers side bearing at around 60,000. The cars at 97k now, so I kinda feel that it would be the passenger side.

Tell the shop.. (even if they ARE a shop)
the axle nut (aka Locking Spindle Nut) is a ONE TIME USE ONLY NUT. also.. torque to 208-214 FOOT pounds (WOW) to preload the bearing correctly, and avoid another VERY quick failure.

Is 97k a quick exit for a wheel bearing?

That is actually quite long..... on this platform Seriously, though, that is about average for the bearings..
