Took two parents half a lifetime later to realize smoking was assisting in harming them. If my Dad didn't smoke whatever his old man had in those days, maybe stress wouldn't have caused the stroke he had and the cancer (we speculated) that mysteriously killed him in his recovery bed. He quit far too late. It served an equal assistance to the many other rigors of his life that ended up killing him.
My Mom quit after her heart was nearly collapsed.

Forgive my attitude. I can't count how many people smoke in my family, or have, and my generation (brother and sister in law) seem to be the first who do not.
I am glad for your trying. Reading up on the science of quitting, it is literally a manipulation of thought patterns and decieving your brain on constant throughout the day. Those who win against their reward center of the brain are the strongest people I've ever known.
