About a month and a half ago i spun a main crank bearing and broke a rod,oil pump quit, so I took it to a shop recomended by my wifes uncle, Eberts Garage, on RT. 4 in Sandusky Ohio. I gave him the keys and said I need a new engine for my 1998 Ford Contour SVT, sounds simple enough, right.he quoted me $850 for the engine, and est. 800 in labor, since he knew a family member I did'nt think much about it.After I got it back and drove around about 100 mi. I was thinking something was'nt right so I popped the hood and low and behold it's a Couger 2.5l, so now I'm P.O.ed. He claims his son did all the work, and was under the impression I just wanted an engine in as soon as possible. Do'nt we all want our cars to spend the least amount of time possible in the shop?I asked him if I brought you a Mustang GT, would you put in the LX motor ?,and not tell me? no but this is what you've done to me........ So is any one a lawyer in the state of Ohio because I think I need one.

...Mustang LX's have the same 5.0 in'em as the GT.....
but, any decent shop should have compared the engine VIN instead of doing what they did.

....obviously you don't get it. The Mustang LX 5.0L and the Mustang GT 5.0L are the same engine, same rated hp, same rated tq. The LX was the cheaper alternative to the GT. The Cougar 2.5L is NOT the same as the SVT 2.5L as you have noticed in your driving. They don't share the same VIN identifier, etc etc...

Actually there Genius, they didn't make a V6 LX. You either got the 2.3L or the 5.0L. Since you didn't specifiy and you were trying to compare the 2.5L Non-SVT to the 2.5L SVT you meant the LX 5.0 and the GT 5.0. However, in your uber-smartness I corrected you and you took offense. I'm sorry you aren't knowledgeable in that arena.

So, your mechanic, put in an unauthorized engine that you didn't tell him to put in? However, for the money you got a helluva deal.
Next time you take your car to a mechanic you might want to take it to a more reputable place since you don't seem to know wants going on.
And thanks for the personal attack with the name, that really hurt my feelings and now I'm going to go in the corner and cry.
