Not necessarily ... there were several 98.5s that got leftover 98 interior parts yet have 98.5 exterior parts ... such as mine. Click the first link in my sig for more info on that

They also didn't have GL's after 1998. GL became the SE did it not? We had this discussion not very long ago.

But then,as a Contoue die hard,should that not be like a memorized thing?

Yep. Though I tend to memorize the sales brochure and available options for each trim level of a vehicle before I even go to look at one. The Contour is relatively easy to remmeber, once you try doing that with say an Explorer or a F-150....then it get's real confusing.
