Hey guys. A little backround for ya. I have an alpine cda-9811 headunit hooked to four 5x7 40w rms eclipse speakers. The factory amplifier is already bypassed. i believe the model number on the speakers is se8572. i'm looking for a little more bass from them because when i turn up the bass, the sound quality isn't there at all, plus everything vibrates. would it be worth it for me to hook up an amplifier to the speakers? i have a pioneer gm-x722 amplifier lying around and also a legacy 4 channel 400w amp. I'm asking because the headunit is already 50wx4, and the speakers are 40w rms? should i do it or not? would it improve the sound quality or bass at all? thanks...sorry for the lengthiness

I'm not sure if it will provide better clarity for your speakers but if you decide to hook up a seperate amp to your your speakers, use a 4-channel amp (for obvious reasons.) I have 75x4 watt HU and my speakers sound pretty good w/ just that. Maybe just try it out (installing amp) and see if it sounds better or not.

You guys need to stop measuring by PEAK WATTAGE!! your 9811 pushes 23w x 4 which isn't too shabby. but stop teasing yourself by thinking its 50w x4

What HU advertises 75x4? theres the panasonic CQ-C9801U which claims to be 70w x 4 peak. But the real kick in the balls is its only 31w x4 RMS

I think it's a JVC. I read somewhere that they have some new internal amp in their '05 and newer headunits.
My opinion is to deaden the doors. That will add some mid-bass, and hopefully get rid of those pesky rattles. Perhaps do this at the same time as running the wire for the new amp.

What are those obvious reasons? It is quite possible to run 4 speakers on a 2 channel amp, the only loss being the fade capabilities. 2 channel amps usually are cheaper
but go with what you know

I would say amp the speakers. You never know if in the future you might upgrade to even better speakers.
