hi all.at 30 mph + if i take the foot off the gas and coast the speed down ,im getting a bad noise while slowing down.i have a 95 contour se with 54k.no cels or other problems. it sounds almost like grinding but then it goes away in 1-2 seconds .no trouble shifting on acceleration but somethings tellin me this is transmission related.any ideas? thanks

vibration as in steering wheel wobble vibration or just vibration when letting off the accelerator? If its in the wheel more then likely nothing to do with transmission, how is your front end suspension, espesially your inner/outer tie rods. My ranger vibrates when I let off the accelerator but it has bad front end suspension namely ball joints, and tie rods. Check your front end first. Maybe a far fetch but grinding could be from warped rotors, but i doubt thats the problem, start with checking the front end, you never know. Oh before I forget when you decelerate, put your trans in neutral see if it makes the same sound. Just for kicks inspect your cv boots too on your cv shafts. Yes I know the car has 54k on it but doesnt mean anything, Ive done work on 2004 with 30k on them and replaced struts and crap on them. Anything is possible.

thanks .the front end parts are ok .this is not a wheel vibration/grinding. its in the engine area.it only lasts 1-2 seconds during deacceleration.ill try the neutral trick tomorrow.thanks

i tried the neutral shift during noise and it did not go away.i hope this means my trans is ok.is it possible this is a engine brake noise? the manual makes reference of it but only if overdrive is off.mine is not.thanks for the tips .i guess ill bring it to the shop and get it looked at.
