I am adding a sub box setup with an amp in the trunk and I am wondering where I take the sound signal from. Do I tap off of the rear door speakers? do I run it from the head unit before the signal gets to any speakers.....???????
If I am tapping into the rear speaks, how do I get to them? If this has been answered in other topics, please let me know.
Thanx!

Assuming you have an aftermarket headunit, you run the RCA cables from the head unit to the amp....

You can get all of your wiring needs FROM HERE

i don't mean to be condescending or mean in any way, but if you lack the knowledge as to where to source your sound signal, it's quite possibly best left to an installation shop to do that...

typical places (best buy, CC, etc.) usually charge around like $60 or so for it, but if you talk to one of them on the side, they may 'borrow' a drill from work and do it for you for something like $30 (that's what i did for my old car.. you gotta be kinda sly about it though.)

or, check your local forums and see if anyone in your area has experience and wouldn't mind lending you a hand. that's probably the best route to take and your first choice.

I have done this before (tapped off of the back speaker wires) and had no probs , that was in my old car with rear speakers. This one has them in the rear doors and I thought that I would ask before I did something.
My HU has the RCA jacks on the back but if I run that to the amp, the RCA inputs are for low input. Or do I clip and strip the end to the amp and go through the terminals??
Thanx

this should have nothing to do with clipping or stripping anything.
there should be an rca input on the amp. and rca are far better than that box-4 or hi-level input or whatever it's called. i don't see how tapping off the back speakers would accomplish a signal for the amp, because the actual speaker signal and rca carrying signal are two different things, if i'm not mistaken..
either way, go from rca to rca. best you can do.

like i said though, go to the local board and see if someone good with audio wants to lend a hand.

Like the Greasymonkey said, use the RCA set-up. This is what it's designed for. How many RCA jacks do you have coming out the back of your headunit? If it's just one set, then it's going to be sending all information to your amp. You'll then use the adjustments on the amp to tune the sub. Trust me, you'll be much happier going this route.

I would suggest someone with experience to help you out as well, but I can't knock you for wanting to do it yourself. I want to do things myself to save me the vost of labor, and through many years of trails and tribulations I have mastered a couple of things. If you're willing to take the risk, DIY

Exactly, you would be amazed how simple car audio is. Once you see how a basic system is hooked up, you'll be doing everything yourself. Then you'll branch out and start building enclosures etc.. Its much easier to take pride in a system when you know you built it yourself and it's built right.. I can't stand the little punks that say "hey look what I bought and hooked up at Best Buy"

Thanks for the input guys. I know how to hook it up...thats not an issue . I am just wondering though, what the advantage to using the HU's rca jacks over just tapping into the speaker wires in the car . On the amp, the rca jack inputs are for 'low level' whereas the screw terminals on the amp are for 'high level'. Are the screw terms more ideal for bridging? Is the rca output/input just 'cleaner'??
Wireing isnt an issue but what would sound best?
Thanx again.

Do a little more research before you post. Some people will really ride you for not searching. And if you have done this before it shouldnt matter if the speakers are in the door.
