I got a call from my wife on Friday saying "Honey, don't worry I'm okay, but I crashed the car".
She rear-ended a Ford box truck and the rear steel bumper went through the oval grill, through the radiator, bent the radiator support, but did not hit the engine.
So how easily can the radiator and the support be replaced? I know the rad is simple enough, but the support is what I'm worried about. I was going to go to a u-pull-it junk yard and get the parts, but should I bother? Or am I wasting my time. The hood and fenders and bumper are actually not damaged AT ALL. Other minor stuff will be the headlights and trim and such.

My bad, this is a 99 Contour SE Zetec.
I'm pretty confident I can get all but the rad support off, that's where the problem is. I've seen some people do a front end swap, but no mention on how they got the parts off.

Worst comes to worst, you could get some JB weld and redo the supports.

JB Weld? How is that going to hold the support on properly? I though of using grade 8 hardware to replace the weld spots once removed. Won't that work?

It sounds like it's only a small hit . Most likely worth fixing up yourself . You could go to a junkyard & look for the parts you need , and take the opportunity to "learn" how to replace the parts while you're removing them from the donor car . Go for it !

Well, from all the replies I see that it is welded on, and Avey had written to me saying I can drill out the welds. So once I drill out the welds and remove the rad support, can I place the new one in using grade 8 hardware?
I'd go to a u-pull-it salvage yard and pull everything except the rad support which I cannot do myself without my electric drill on site. The rad support I can buy for less then $100.

First hand good thing to hear your wife is okay. And it doesnt sound to bad of a car crash. You should post pics so we can "really" see the damage. Good luck on the fix!

Thanks, I appreciate that. The crash does not seem too bad until you pop the hood. I took pictures but got no place to host them. Anyone?
