I think the next Mercedes E-Class will have a button operated "electronic" e-brake...
On our cars it's definitely mechanical. It's a cable that pulls through a sleeve not unlike a bicycle's brake system. In order to have it button operated you'd need to install something like a linear actuator on the cable to move it through its travel. A very complicated and potentially expensive proposition...
Now, why would you.. hrrm.. someone what to do that to your.. *cough* ..their car??
