I am hoping for some decent weather conditions so I can go this year. Last year sucked!

And for all the newbies, keep at it if you are having trouble. Its a lot harder to learn than skiing but gets progressively easier as you go! Sinc eI tried snowboarding I havent set foot in skiies!

I love snowboarding... My only advice to you is push hard off the lift and if you've never done anything like this (ex. skateboarding), you'll probably become frustrated and just give up. Good luck

ROB! dont tell them how to get off the lift, its hilarious watching noobies get off the lifts.

I love when the lifts get those huge bad nasty ruts in them.

Its always fun getting off the lifts lmao I still fall every once in a while.

Novice advise here: Keep the weight on the leading leg. This is counter intuitive at first as beginners will try to "slow down" by leaning backwards. That will not work and you will loose control.

This took me long time to get over but is so important to get hang of this sport.

And as others have mentioned, I haven't put on skis since I've put on the boards!

Start running and do as many leg exercises as you can. If you can run a 7 min mile you are in good shape for the season. Bend your knees and in as someone else mention'd keep your weight on the leading leg. Determine from the get go if you are regular or goofy. You should be fine.

I'm still saying that "exercising" isn't essential. I'm only saying this because I have many friends that can hardly run down their driveway, but are great snowboarders. I can't speak from personal experience, because I run 6 minute miles and am in shape, but just thought it was worth mentioning.

I'd say as far as physically preparing yourself for it, STRETCH!!! Stretch for at least 5 mins, ideally 10 before you go out. You will be bending, falling, faceplanting, landing on your wrists, etc. more than you probably ever have in one day. If you're not well stretched, you WILL do harm to your body. Whether it be just a minor hyper extension or even a pulled ligament, stretching is your best defense to injuring yourself.

As others have said, do make an effort to put forward weight on the board. It's much like learning to drive a car. At first, it seems there's so much to think about, you'll never get it. But eventually your body will learn the movements subconsciously and snowboarding will just flow out of you, instead of thinking about it. For example, instead of just saying, "Let's cut off the groom and go in that little tree trail and come back out," at first you'll be thinking, "Ok, lean forward, dig my heels in, balance the board so I don't catch an edge, now hold this balance till I turn into the trees, then switch edges very carefully, then dig my toes in, balance, and come out!"

The biggest thing about snowboarding is just doing the movements over and over until you have enough confidence/muscle memory to do them without even thinking about it. Just remember, don't get frustrated if you don't get it at first, no one does. Stay confident and practice good form.

Go once. You'll absolutely hate it and your ass and all the joints in your body are gonna hurt. Bring yourself to do it again and you'll start to get the basics. Go a third time and you'll be hooked. Good luck to the Newbs
