I am planning on detailing my car, including some touch up paint. Does this sound right?:

1) Wash car with Palmolive dish soap
2) Mother's claybar (my local stores only carried mothers, it should do the job just fine)
3) Wash the car lightly/quickly once more using ZIP car wash
4) Meguiars Clear Coat Scrub
5) Touch-up paint...wait for 24 hrs (as per directions on bottle)
6) Meguiars step 2 polish (1-2 coats)
7) Meguiars Gold Class wax

No its not Zaino, but I was wondering if this looks about right. Should I do #4 (Clear Coat Scrub) before or after #5 (touch-up paint), or does it matter?

Where are you, STRIPED SVT? laugh

Thanks!

Ok, now I am a little bit confused. I have been reading some other posts in this forum which say to wax and then polish...I thought it was polish then wax (which would make sense as it would coincide with the Meguiars "3 step system")...#1 cleaner/claybar...#2 polish...#3wax...right?

Ah a guy with smarts..... :p cool Well the first thing I would do is go ahead and use the dawn for washing the car, seeing how it strips EVERYTHING! Then, if your paint is kinda "weathered" go ahead and use the Mequiars body scrub or if its not that bad use the Mequiars cleaner wax. Next apply a coat of #7 glaze polish. After that, depending on your time and/or budget put on a coat of Mequiars Gold Glass (if your car is dark in color) or Mequiars #26 Hi-tech yellow wax for all others, including dark cars, its just that it seems that Gold Class works better on dark cars wink Finally if you have the time/and or money, go ahead with a coat of Mequiars #20 polymer sealant.....Bling, bling as they say laugh

Ok, sweet! So it seems as if I had it right.
wink

I have already bought the Gold Class wax (my car is silver) so I'll just have to stick with it. The reason I didn't buy the #26 Hi-tech yellow wax is because the directions say it requires an orbital buffer...(which I do not own)

But what about the touch up paint...I should apply the touch up paint after I do the body scrub, right?

I use #26 Hi-tech yellow wax w/o a problem and I don't remember seeing that you only can use it with orbiter but it does say that you CAN use it w/ an orbiter though wink Good luck and happy waxing!
