IIRC, valve float becomes a problem for the duratec at an RPM well above where you should be venturing. Not even close to 7100. I would be surprised if a factory limiter came within 2-300rpm of where the engine begins to experience float.
True, but a failed part seams like the most likely reason as to why this happened. Be it a worn chain (unlikely at only 15K miles) or a failed spring. Regardless, the problem has arisen and the engine must be rebuilt, but knowing WHY it failed might help others on here ... just throwing out a possibility, regardless of how possible.

The stock springs will not float until well past 8000rpm.

I know this, but the stock chain isn't supposed to stretch at all, but will over MANY miles ... well past 15K. Now, if a guide snapped, that would explain everything, but as long as it looks like a premature failure, anything is possible.

One of the guides had broken from when it was in the 95tour.

NO!!!
2.5L or 3.0L valves, valve positions, centerlines, lengths, etc. are ALL the same on the years of swaps we do.
I'm willing to be money that the heads were accidentally decked too far if all else with timing components was done correctly. I don't think Kinger decked them himself but anything could happen. If that is the case, you will need to check the clearance and may need to run double gasket thickness or something...or put in custom pistons. Make sure you check this out before you spend any more money on stock stuff.

My question is.....if I was somehow off by one tooth (retarded on the exhaust bank) wouldn't that cause all of the cylinders to hit on that bank? Not just 2 of the three?
I dunno. We'll see what happens and I'll make sure to get some clay in there before the rebuild.
If I can help it, I'd rather not go with dbl thick gaskets, but if for some reason I have to, any ideas where I might find them?

If you had just the exhaust cam off by one tooth while the intake was not, then no they wouldn't all hit.

No, I mean if the exhaust cam was off by one tooth, would all 3 cylinders (6 exhaust valves) hit. Basically all the valves on the cam that was retarded by one tooth.
I guess I am just curious why only two of three were like that.
I know the intake has to either be WAY advanced or float a valve before they should hit as any time the piston is on it's up stroke they should be closed.

I would expect all three on that bank to have hit or showed that they hit but not necessarily all break. I'm not sure if it is possible only for on or two cylinders to show it.
Those anomalies are why I've been leaning more towards a head decking issue.
You should have th etime to measure the thickness of the head from the valve cover mating surface to the head gasket mating surface.
See if we can rustle up some specs on that thickness and of course the tolerance limit.
Maybe Procyon knows the stock head thickness before decking.

Well they're not in my posession right now. They're over at Dart waiting to be reworked. I'll see if i can get over there sometime this week and get some numbers from both end of each head.
I'll keep ya posted on the results.
