IIRC, valve float becomes a problem for the duratec at an RPM well above where you should be venturing. Not even close to 7100. I would be surprised if a factory limiter came within 2-300rpm of where the engine begins to experience float.
True, but a failed part seams like the most likely reason as to why this happened. Be it a worn chain (unlikely at only 15K miles) or a failed spring. Regardless, the problem has arisen and the engine must be rebuilt, but knowing WHY it failed might help others on here ... just throwing out a possibility, regardless of how possible.
