I saw a green SVT a few years back with the chrome front grill ring and emblems in gold. The car looked to be otherwise stock, so I'm guessing the dealer did it as mentioned above.
I see that all the time where I live ... generally rich people trying to make their Honda vans look more impressive. Apparently it's a prestige thing ... go figure
I'd never pay for that, actually I think gold looks way more tackier than the silver.

My 96 SE had the Gold rings around the Ford oval, Contour SE badge and the 24V DOHC badges also. After about 3 years thou all the gold plating wore off and it really made the badges look bad. Not sure why but mine had that feature also.

A friend of mine works for a Ford dealer that gold-plates the emblems on some of their cars as a way to justify padding the price. He tells me all the employees call it the "N..... Edition" amongst themselves.
