KJ, Z1 polish lok is a surface prep and pre-cleaner. It helps bond the actual polish (Z2 or Z5) to the paint. It should be used once a year or every 10 coats, whichever comes first.
Z6 (just a detailing spray) can be used any time before or after a coat, or right after a wash. Helps give back the slickness, kick up the shine, and keep the dust away. I use a lot of it, like the interior to help with the dust.
Z2 and Z5 are compatible, meaning you can use either one on top of the other. But, only 1 coat every 24h, uness you use ZFX. If you use ZFX, you can apply up to 3 coats right after each other (think 3 coats in an hour becasuse it dries quicker as well). But, only 3 coats per 24 period even with ZFX. If you wait a few days aver applying 3 coats in a row, you might notice a difference in mirroring when the polish cures.

I've got that clearcoat cracking on some of the surfaces of my black '98. Will Zaino make paint blemishes more noticable?

Karl NO, nothing will fix that. You need that area repainted.

Hmmm...I picked up some of that Eagle 1 Wax As You Dry stuff today, and I am very pleased. Flame me, but I'm not going to sell my soul (and wallet) to the Zaino Brothers just so my car can shine like no other. I'm sure it's great, but for the everyday guy who has limited time and a nagging wife, this stuff works for me. I always get compliments on how nice my car looks after I wash and dry it(Before this Eagle 1 stuff). BTW, I have never done a "true" wax job to this car. Of course, these are average people(Some Contour owners even), not show car judges and the like. I think this stuff is good enough for the everyday user...just spray a small amount on an area at a time, and wipe with terry cloth towel. Of course I got the majority of the water off with the water blade first , but it says you can use while wet too. $4.50 @ Wal-Mart baby. :p

In the end it does come down to how much time and money you are willing to spend, which varies for all of us. I too am quite satisfied with just a regular wash. The biggest reason I am starting to wax now is because it protects the paint (kinda of adds a nice protective layer)...Im not a shine/reflections freak (my car is silver), i just like a clean look. A few days ago I pulled up to a completely customized jetta (was not my cup of tea), but it was strinkingly clean (it was silver too)...no crazy shine, etc. just CLEAN!! That's what I am aiming for with my silver tour...
