In saying having had, I mean the cars my parents drove while I was a kid, I've never had a car older than 6 years old, and that 6 year old car was the oldest.
Ford didn't acquire Mazda until the mid 1990's. I was born in the mid 1980's. We had 3 626s between 1984 and 1992 when we moved to Detroit, not to mention a GLC, and an RX7. I would have remembered any of the 626's or RX7 breaking because those were my Moms car, and we would have needed to drive it 50 miles to the Mazda dealer and sit there while it was fixed since my Mom wasn't going to leave me home alone all day, and she took me everywhere. I never rode in my Dad's car because he worked third shift.
