Get real, all manufacturers have recalls for many reasons. All of them have their dirty laundry too! Toyota is so great...... Shortly I'll list a few recalls made just since the 2003 on a select few models from toyota. NOTICE That at least three of them result in serious crashes. NOTICE that one of them is a faulty fuel shut valve that can result in a fire and burn your azz up! Didn't see that as big news did you? Over 15K units. Some of these are for hundreds of thousands of vehicles.

Did you hear that Daimler Corporation just sold off their shares of Mitsubish because Mitsubish has been concealing recalls for the past 10 years!!!!
They didn't like the way it might reflect on their image so they dumped them.
All you people who get on the bandwagon without reading anything just make me sick. Do you guys realize how many GM parts are in a Toyota? Ever look at the engine coolant systems and refrigerant systems?
Honda is probably the best at NOT using other peoples stuff an making their own. EVEN THEY bought the dang Passports off of GM/Isuzu (basically an S10 blazer) until they could build their own SUV stuff to compete.

July 27, 2004
Toyota is recalling 128,316 Camry sedans because the
side airbags may not inflate properly. The company
says there have been no reports of injuries. The defect was discovered by a supplier.
The recall includes Camry sedans from model years 2002-2004 equipped with optional side
airbags. The company said that improper assembly caused some bags to become twisted.
That could mean that, in a crash, the bad would not inflate fast enough to prevent injury.
Dealers will inspect the air bags for free and replace them if necessary. The company is
scheduled to begin notifying customers about the recall next month.

Consequence:
IF THE SWITCH BECOMES UNSEATED, THE FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM MAY MISTAKE THE REAR-FACING CHILD RESTRAINT FOR AN UNBELTED ADULT OCCUPANT, AND MAY NOT SUPPRESS THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEATBELT BUCKLE STATUS SWITCH. THIS SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN (SSC 40M) BEGAN ON DECEMBER 20, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.

the difference is that Ford has much more severe recalls that have to do with the integral safety and operation of a vehicle. if the gas pedal is stuck, you can turn the car off, slam on the brakes, or jump out. if the gas tank explodes because it's riding on the ground at highway speeds, your fubbed!

Dude.... I respect you but in this case you don't know WTF you are talking about. Read the post above. Tell me who else has "fire" concerns. You may not have realized this stuff. I'd think broken brake lines on brand new vehicles would be a serious issue too. That is very recent and doesn't seem to be garnering much news.

Remember the GM fuel tank issue in the trucks? Tanks mounted outside the frame rails? Really it was very few vehicles compared to the 20-30 years they made their trucks that way that had problems in crashes, but the news made such a big deal of it. They did a so called "test" with the trucks in an accident. This "test" was broadcast on TV. GM investigators discovered that the TV Network had rigged the truck with explosives to explode so it would be more dramatic in this test.
The media is worthless.
