Is this perhaps some "insider" homage to the Ford Pinto and it's pyrotechnic tendencies? Is it possible that the UAW line-monkeys had it in mind to celebrate the Pinto's anniversary with this latest recall?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I think that they just put too much effort into the Mustang, and not enough in it's other cars. I want a new Cougar based off the Mustang, but with luxory options and bigger engines. Just like the original one.

That's too bad right? I think a new Mustang redone in current Mercury styling with a DOHC 4.6L and Special leather/interior options would be just the kind of car Mercury needs right now.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Whatever! The friggin 'imports are better' attitude strikes again. Get real, all manufacturers have recalls for many reasons. All of them have their dirty laundry too! Toyota is so great...... Shortly I'll list a few recalls made just since the 2003 on a select few models from toyota. NOTICE That at least three of them result in serious crashes. NOTICE that one of them is a faulty fuel shut valve that can result in a fire and burn your azz up! Didn't see that as big news did you? Over 15K units. Some of these are for hundreds of thousands of vehicles.
Did you hear that Daimler Corporation just sold off their shares of Mitsubish because Mitsubish has been concealing recalls for the past 10 years!!!! They didn't like the way it might reflect on their image so they dumped them. All you people who get on the bandwagon without reading anything just make me sick. Do you guys realize how many GM parts are in a Toyota? Ever look at the engine coolant systems and refrigerant systems? Honda is probably the best at NOT using other peoples stuff an making their own. EVEN THEY bought the dang Passports off of GM/Isuzu (basically an S10 blazer) until they could build their own SUV stuff to compete.

The company said that improper assembly caused some bags to become twisted. That could mean that, in a crash, the bad would not inflate fast enough to prevent injury. so does Toyota, if you go and look it up. No company is perfect, although how they handle the recalls are another issue....
the difference is that Ford has much more severe recalls that have to do with the integral safety and operation of a vehicle. if the gas pedal is stuck, you can turn the car off, slam on the brakes, or jump out. if the gas tank explodes because it's riding on the ground at highway speeds, your fubbed!
Dude.... I respect you but in this case you don't know WTF you are talking about. Read the post above. Tell me who else has "fire" concerns. You may not have realized this stuff. I'd think broken brake lines on brand new vehicles would be a serious issue too. That is very recent and doesn't seem to be garnering much news.
Remember the GM fuel tank issue in the trucks? Tanks mounted outside the frame rails? Really it was very few vehicles compared to the 20-30 years they made their trucks that way that had problems in crashes, but the news made such a big deal of it. They did a so called "test" with the trucks in an accident. This "test" was broadcast on TV. GM investigators discovered that the TV Network had rigged the truck with explosives to explode so it would be more dramatic in this test.
The media is worthless.

The reason Ford makes headlines everytime it has a recall is because, OMG, most people don't have high regard for Ford vehicles. People will watch or read anything negative about Ford because it reinforces their thought that Ford cars aren't quality automobiles.
BTW, you don't get Ford's reputation by recalling the small number of cars Toyota and Honda do. I actually frequently check recalls on a number of vehicles on NHTSA, and I see a lot more recalls for Ford and GM vehicles than I do for Chryslers, Toyotas and Hondas. Isn't just a few recalls, no matter how serious they may be that give you a bad rep. It is the repeated recalls Ford has had over the years for ignition switches that catch fire, suspension pieces that super corrode with normal salt exposure, doors that won't stay closed, cruise controls that catch fire in your garage, ABS failure, headgaskets, wiring harnesses that can catch on fire, and many others that gave them a bad reputation.

oh. So now you're splitting hairs. I guess I'd be more of a killer if I killed two people instead of one....or more of recall if I recalled 1000 unsafe vehicles versus 10. BTW, there were over 128K camry's in the airbag recall. "Fords fire causing recalls are worse than Hondas or Toyotas" I'm a big car fan and I have no particular love for any one manufacturer. I like Honda and Mazda quite a bit, GM and Ford and Volvo. I really like BMWs. I've worked on all of the above and a few others. Granted, some recalls are just through stupidity and sometimes the numbers are based upon lack of timely action on the assembly line. But OK, Ford is the worst.
