Picked up a beater to haul my two dogs (100lb Akitas) around. Unfortunately, those dogs are just too big to fit in my other car.

That thing's got a Hemi in it! The Durango is of the better SUV's, and big enough!

I'm right there with you. The thing is an absolute boat. Honestly, it's a pain to drive. It's more than 2x the weight of my other car. Unfortunately a vehicle this size is necessary with a wife, baby, and 210 lbs worth of dogs.
At 4823lbs, the 5.7L V8 (335 hp, 375 lb/ft torque) feels like it struggles to get it moving. I'm testing the waters with the wife, to see if she'll OK this purchase:
http://www.gsmotorsports.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=HMI-20002&Category_Code=HMIDURSC
8-10 PSI supercharger kit for 500 rear wheel hp and 450 lb/ft torque.
After that, perhaps something to help cut down on the waddling this vehicle does when cornering.

Just do it. You have to put your foot down sometimes just to show her that you are the man of the house.
