Very true. Either project is going to run you some serious coin. Pan up engine rebuild will run in the neighborhood of $1500 for parts. Then a tranny rebuild and upgrade to LSD w/ HI-PO clutch is another $1200+ in parts. Then you've got your turbo/supercharger. Look to spend no less than $6k to have a decent, reliable F/I'd car, either way you go. This is assuming you'll be doing all of the work yourself, and/or you can get awesome deals on parts.

yes,I completely realize this and was going to have a complete pan up rebuild. All new seals, gaskets, bearings, internals, everything. It will be a brand new motor when it is done. I was expecting just to build the engine (before turbo or SC) to run me atleast $5000,so I know what I'm getting into. The shop that will be doing the work (I have no time due to working 6 days/48 hrs wk,nowhere to work on it and don't have all the necessary tools) is the shop I used to work for,so my labour rate is going to be $20/hr instead of $40,and a friend of mine works at a Ford dealer and can get me parts at cost. So I'm set pretty much. I know I can be spending as much as $10k on the engine. I'll say anywhere between 5-10k would be realistic to have the motor, turbo, tranny and driveline done. Then factor in about 3k for paint,$1k for tires,1500 for suspension, and yeah....lots of $$$$. It's ok though,I'm in no rush to have it completed. I don't care if it takes 6 months,8,10,12,18,24,36 months....just as long as it gets done, and done right, then I'm happy .
Anyways,at the moment,I am leaning toards the Zetec. I haven't touched that car,so it'll be a blank canvas, whereas my Duratec has been modded and been troublesome, and everything I;ve done to it was going to get redone. Just keep the V6 as my beater,so I'll have a modified daily beater while the Zetec gets built, and then when the Zetec is done,it'll be nucking futs.
So far I am really surprised that the majority of the club has said to build the Zetec over the Duratec, when I bought the Duratec to replace a Zetec ATX in the first place! Things are going full circle!
