Little dilemma here...
with the purchase of my zetec mtx,I'm quite fond of it. Actually, almost like it as much,if not more than my Duratec for some reason. Both cars I identical in colour, year, trim & interior colour. Only differences are the Duratec has power windows and locks, and cruise control, whereas the Zetec doesn't. None of those are big issues with me,just less to go wrong on the zetec...
Anyways,my Duratec is off the road right now with 291 600km. It's tired and needs an overhaul. The Zetec has 264 500km on it. It's in good shape, peppy and it moves! It's making my Duratec feel like a slug.
Now here's the deal...I do alot of my own work. Zetec is WAY easier to work on. I have had nothing but headaches with the Duratec. Both cars are in equally good shape bodywise. Actually, the Zetec car's body is a bit better paintwise.
I am planning to go turbo or SC with whatever motor I build. I want a quick fun STREET car. It will never ever go to the track. Maybe occasional drags just to see what it'll do,but otherwise it's a summer only, nice day & show car when it's done,so it doesn't need to be making gobs of power it just needs to be quick and look good. I can do that with either motor.
I am very tempted to build this Zetec and actually use the Duratec car as my beater. For the V6,I was planning on having it rebuilt, then going with SVT goodies, chip, pulley kit, port & polish, full exhaust and bringing it over 200hp. Then I was thinking I could turbo it the following year.
Now,off the bat with the Zetec,it's a fun zippy litle motor. I'll supercharge it,make it into a little monster like Hector's old car.
I dunno what to do. What would you build? Zetec or Duratec? In the end,I think the Zetec will be a little easier on the wallet too.
However,as of today,I just took the V6 off the road,it is unplated & uninsured now,and sitting under a cover on my driveway waiting to be taken away to be torn down and rebuilt while the little Zetec keeps begging me to drive it,and I changed my my insurance and plates and everyhting over to it. GRRRR. Damn Zetec...it's almost like cheating on my girlfriend, trying to ruin everything I had going with the Duratec, lol.

Personally, I'd go ZETEC. Hello Focus aftermarket!

Stay with the 4 banger. Just because the 6 has caused you so many problems. The one thing is that the 6 can take alot more of a beating than a 4 can.

Duratecs are always faster than Zetecs! Your Duratec must have really been out of it. Both are MTX, am I right? I drove a Zetec ATX once, and felt it would be good with an MTX. My sister's MTX Duratec 1995 Mystique is VERY peppy, 115kmiles, stock. Your Zetec tour might weigh less and "sound" faster...

I'm not building either car to be ALL motor. It'll be mostly motor. The car will not be raced,I just want something where I can put my foot down on the street, make me giggle and carve some backroads with a grin on my face and know that I didn't need to spend $50k on a Porsche to have fun. Budget is a key here. To date,I have had my V6 since May of this year and I have almost $9000 into the car. Atleast $3000 of that was in REPAIRS. This car is a pit.
You see, what I can do,since the Zetec car is stock,I can take it to the shop completely unmolested and then do anything and everything to it starting from scratch, whereas my V6 car is already modified and most of the stuff I've done to it is being replaced. Why not keep the stuff I've already spent money on and drive the car as it is and just beat on it while I can build a killer Zetec?

The right thing to do is what You want to do. What kind of mods were you planning for the V6?

My old Zetec was nice, She was pretty easy to work on Now I am on a Vulcan V6!!! Looks easy to work on if I needed too... Just a little tedious from the wiring... But looks rather simple if I ever needed to. But that's only on Taurus If ever to get another Contour, either SVT or another regular Zetec But... a new car sounds highly unlikely at the minute....

I say do the Zetec, turbo it, and tell me how you did it and what parts you used so I can do it too. Trust me, there are just some cars that ALWAYS have problems with them, little gremlins if you will. It sounds to me like your Duratec is one of them.
ZETEC!!!!
