Mumm had damn near 300HP on his NA 2.5

It was a fully built race-motor. Somehow I don't think we can use that example here. Drivability of that thing on the street would be next to worthless.

I nominate this for the dumbest thing said this week on CEG.

You folks are comparing different numbers.

The racing engines (Mumm, Capaldi, etc) talked about use flywheel numbers without any accesories. (i.e. engine test stand dyno)

The numbers we normally quote here are "SAE wheel" power numbers. They are going to be at least 20% to 25% lower then a test stand run.

A 300 HP test stand run is maybe 240 wheels. The highest quote for a racing engine I have seen over the years was in the 330 "test stand" range. (~260 wheels) That's custom race cams, 13 to 1 CR, 120+ octane race fuel, etc. That is an extremely potent small displacement NA engine! (well over 100 hp/l at the wheels!)

By better if you mean, which one makes more power, than its the T3/T4.

The T3/T4 on a stock 2.5L will take FOREVER to get on boost. It'd be basically a "dyno queen". Steetability would suck, without some serious work.

Actually, there are some small t3/4 trims that wouldn't be too bad. I've seen them used on the civic motors and for that motor they lag a bit but on the 2.5 it would be about like the big ass t3/4 that I use.
