Not my style.
I took her in this morning. $189 for the diagnostic when, given the hydrocarbon levels, it has to be something causing inefficient combustion. Oh well, it counts towards the $450 if they can't find it.
Oddly enough, a Silver E1 parked beside my silver E0 at the dealer......

Rmember though that if you use the $450 it is a one shot deal. Meaning you cannot do the same next time. At that point IIRC you have to fix the problem outright. Might be better to solve the problem now and save the $450 option for the future when the car is much older. Sad thing is I did the diagnostics and all it did was indicate that the cars sensors were running perfect. Maybe it was because of the OBDI vs. OBDII system. I truely beleive theOBDII is far more advanced if not tempermental.

Well, it can count against the $450, it doesn't have to.
Some of the stuff should be done anyway, like plugs and wires.
But I will need the car, and it needs to be plated for me to drive.
And by the time the next test rolls around, I will be in something different, I am sure.

It was the O2 sensor, as suspected. Apparently it was loading up at idle (his words, not mine). New plugs and wires were recommended, as was a new air filter. I gave them the 02 sensor job, and asked them to e-test again, and I suspect that will have it blowing clean.
The other stuff I can do easily myself. Of course with a bus strike in the offing, it would be a good idea to have things running right.

Whenever I e-test a car,I make sure it's nice and hot and preferably running 94 octane. I've yet to fail an e-test,with the exception of my Celica that had a fried ECU and had fuel dripping out the tail pipe....
But yeah...it's almost always the 02 sensor that screws your readings.
I heard yesterday,as of January '06,all cars 5 years and newer,so I guess model year 2001 and newer,do NOT have to be tested every 2 years as they presently do and now that all cars 20 years and older, which were exempt under the previous rulings, now ar required to be tested. Well isn't that great. Everyone either has no emission controls,or purposely removed them because they were exempt. There's going to be a lot of angry people....
I thought they were phasing out the e-test though? It's stupid,it's not even required in some areas. I think it should either be a requirement like a safety to register a car and it must be done everywhere,or just dump the stupid cash grab program.

Well, she blew clean this time. I hate spending money to prove I'm right.
At any rate, she is running like a top, and I have my new sticker, so I am happy. I'll still do the plugs and wires though. Probably overdue.
