I don't know if there's enough data to support this. In the case of the TX example, around 10% of the voting-age population voted for the ban. Which means 90% of eligible voters either sat out the vote or voted against it.
Polls support your statement, but if people don't hold this belief to the extent that they're willing to get off the couch to support it, is the data really relevant? We're seeing data that suggests people are probably turned off by the idea, but not enough to do anything about it.
