Who says I do? I actually think gay couples should be given equal rights under the law (given the same indication of commitment marriage offers), though I don't think "marriage" is the way to do that. Notice how the civil rights movement fought for equal rights; they didn't fight to be white people.

Would you have an issue with removing the term marriage from legal documents and replace it with civil union?

Thank you for proving my point.
They're not fighting to be straight. They're fighting to have the same rights afforded to them as citizens of The United States.
You don't think "marriage" is the way to do that? Then what is your brilliant option to change it all? Repeal all the laws based upon "marriage?" Revoke all the rights based solely upon that institution? How do you propose we give gay men and women the same rights when it comes to the really important decisions, without taking 35 years to rewrite every single law pertaining to them? Why is it SO hard for you to accept "marriage" as something they want to have, but are not allowed to under the Texas State Constitution, because their interpretation of "marriage" is not the same?

And gay people are fighting for equal rights, not to be straight.

I think my post outlined the position pretty clearly.
I'm involved in the debate and I figured I'd point out that you didn't address a statement I happened to agree with. *shrug*

No, they are fighting to be straight. Maybe not physically, but they are trying to become a part of a heterosexual institution. Fighting for equal rights would be fighting for their own partnerships to be recognized by the law. If that was their fight, it would be much more difficult to argue against them.

In essence, that is exactly what they are looking for. The gay people I have discussed this with could care less about the term as long as they get the legal benefits (and detriments) that heterosexuals receive with marriage.

Up until now, they didn't have laws like the ones we're discussing overtly limiting their rights. (you can provide the actual verbiage of the law again if you want, to which my previous response will still be in effect).

Unfortunately, their movement does not reflect this.

Why not give them their own schools and water fountains, too?
This is a classic case of separate but equal, which was struck down as being illegal.
It's also a part of what YOU consider to be a heterosexual institution, which I, and many others, do NOT.
