I really do enjoy smoking but unfortuantely it is not socially acceptable any longer especially with my current job. So I don't smoke on a daily or even weekly basis.
If I was a college student, enjoying Euro life, I wouldn't attempt to quit, and just enjoy your life.
Smoking does not gurantee death by lung cancer, it just heightens the probability.
In America, each day an average of 10 people drown, 25 die from AIDS, 118 are killed in automobile accidents
Enjoy your life, it's not always about living until your 102 and senile
Most people, if they had a choice in the matter wouldn't being driving to work everyday. Driving is a necessity and people for the most part know that it's not particularly safe. Plus, it's not about living to 102, it's about having quality of life as long as you can. Smoking, in no way that I can think of, leads to better QOL. Medically unhealthy, makes smokers smell and look like hell, and cuts lung capacity which then leads to poorer health, less capability to exercise, less energy, and so on. Sure there are unsafe activities people participate in often, but let me climb a dangerous mountain over a statistically safer 10 min nicotine buzz anytime.
I agree with the above if smoking has become a habit. I think a social smoker who has 3-5 cigarettes a week shouldnt feel the same amount of pressure to stop.
After Seans last post saying he can smoke a pack in a night, well thats no longer social smoking........
