look behind drivers wheel w/ wheel off. You should see the transaxle. On the back (side toward rear of car) you should see 2 (I think) cables with a rubber accordian boot on them. These should be moving when you shift between gears, ie. when you move the shifter from in the car. If they don't move, you have linkage issues somewhere.

You'll Need To Remove The Inner Fenderwell On The Driver Side. You Should See TWo Spherical Ends Connected To The Black Shift Tower. (Shift Tower Is Located On Top Of The Tranny) The Ends Are On The Back Of The Shift Tower. You'll Notice That One Or Both Of These Ends Has Broken Away From The "Nipples" On The Shift Tower. By Simply Sliding The Ends Back On To The Nipples You Should Regain Your Shifting Abilites. This Is Only A Temporary Fix!!! Drive It Slowly To The Shop To Be Repaired!!! Unless You Are Going To Fix It Yourself.(HUGE PAIN IN THE ARSE!)

If this is what happened, you should be able to make a temperary repair with a nylon tie strap. Do a search for the topic "It finally happened" in the trans forum and you can read about what happened when mine got stuck in second gear.
