Well, a good while ago, the speedometer shot down to zero, just as I glanced at it. Then, I felt the car shift hesitantly. This was on my way to the gas station. On the way back, the car didn't shift from 2nd gear.

I didn't see the OD light flash. When I start the car, the speedometer will deflect just a little based on throttle movement. The only time it was actually fluctuating between 0-130 was when the electrical system failed, and the car just suddenly turned off. The battery was so low, the starter solenoid didn't even engage. But that was fixed by purchasing a new battery

O oh.., "a good while ago" is a long time to run on a bad VSS. Make sure you change the ATF too.

It was parked for all that time. I used my mom's car to get to school. It still has a full tank.

SWEET!!!!!!

Got it fixed!

Why would the original vss shaft be made of plastic? Drunk designer, probably.

Thanks for the help guys. You guys are much better than the low-lifes that flame other people in the "Aesthetics" section.

Did you change the ATF too? Don't forget that.

Original TSS is metal and replacement is plastic. I guess metal is better for VSS and plastic is better for TSS.

I replaced the sensor, yes. And we drained the tranny. We'll put in the ATF later in the weekend.

But it's still parked. I'm still using the Montero. I may need to get a new gear though. It looked cracked. I'll look into getting it this week.
