I had replaced both my 893 fog bulbs with 885s for the added brightness. Great and easy mod.

Funny, though, that the 885s blew within 2 days of each other...

I guess they really only work for a certain amount of 'hours' before they go.

One of them had exploded in the fog light housing, the other was just burnt out.

OH well...

HEY --

Any update on those Sylvania headlight bulbs that are super bright, but not 'blue'??

I got some Sylvania SilverStars and I really like them. I had the Cool Blues before the actual color it put out wasn't blue, it was white. The SilverStars are great, but expect to pay $25 plus tax for each bulb. Also, this time I put all 9005s (high beams) in all 4 bulb sockets, and I really like the difference.

I replaced my Fog Bulbs with the 885s just this past week.
I drive with them on when ever I have my lights on and I have not had a problem.
I was worried about melting the light housing but so far so good.
Plan to do the swith wiring mod this week end so I can drive at dusk with just the fogs and parks on.

I difference is I can actually see with them better.
I'm quite happy with them now.

The reason your lights may have burst on you is because you light housing may have a bad seal. Do you ever see moisture in the lights?

If you handled the lights with your bare hands, that would cause it to. The oils in your hands gets on th eglass and creates hot spots and etches the glass. The etching and the uneven expansion of the glass from the hotter areas cuase the lamps to explode.

If you do touch the glass part of the buld, you need to clean it off well with a soft dry cloth.

Forget about the light housing... It's the lens that melts! It bubbles out nicely in the center 'till it's a nice golden brown and protrudes a good 1/2". A fantastic mod if you ask me  ...

Not everyone has this problem... oh well.

Mine actually melted the bumper a little. It really is amazing how far the lenses bulge out...

I agree with the bad seal theory. Mine blew recently within a couple weeks of each other. Bulb exploded. Both times this occured it was raining. Afterwards I noticed that there was water inside the housings. I've heard of someone drilling small holes in the bottom of the housing to drain out the water. I think the better approach is to inspect it and try to seal it up better. However I took a quick glance and could not find an easy way to remove the fog light housings. Anyone know how to remove the complete fog assembly on the Mystique?

Hey --

I checked for water in the housings and found none.

I was also careful not to touch the bulbs with my fingers when I did the original install.

Seems that they were just past their prime. Not a problem. I just put in two new ones and I'm back looking on the bright side of life smile

Anyone know where to get the Silverstars in the GTA?

Strange, one of my bulbs went and that particular housing had some water it, so I guess mine was a bad seal.

Hey.
Jazzman, the best thing to do is probably put in a new set of fogs, assembly and all. I found that once they start popping, it never ends. I got a set at Crappy tire for 40.00, although it took me 5 hours to do (4 and a half learning to do the first one and half an hour for the second one). They work nicely and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Or go to Ford and see about a new set,
probably about $100 or so. Good Luck
