Hello, Before you get slammed by the board nazi's here is the way to solve the problem> I spent 3 months chasing my water in the trunk problem. 1) don't silicone the foam gasket around the tail light, because silicone won't work, and it takes and hour to scrape it off. 2)Go to a glass shop and buy a $10 roll of the sticky, oily windsheild or glass gasket - it comes in a roll, looks like licice (the candy -- sp??) and is by 3M. Same sticky stuff around your windsheild. Then take off your tail lights strip off the lame foam gasket and put some of this stuff around the tail lights to seal them for good. Hey worked for me!

If you have a spoiler check the gaskets etc around teh bolts in the trunk. That was m prolbem. Showed up in the trunk, lights etc. Actually drilled a tiny hole in tail light to drain the water

rained heavy for a week straight out here (a few weeks back) and i was getting water in the right side of my trunk. after closely inspecting i can see daylight through a slit (vent) in the floor or my trunk. there is another hole (not from rust, but OEM) into the wheel well. it was poor design, but with that much water being thrown up by my tires it worked its way through.

Same thing happened to my Contour, the taillight wasnt seating correctly and was a bit loose, take it off, clean around the seal, maybe put something better, and tighten up

I had a similiar problem. What I did was after removing tailights i saw some serious build up of just general dirt and sedament type material built up on the corner of the light(corner meaning where it rounds to the side of the car to a sort of point, where before would puddle up im guessing and work it's way around the lame seal around the tail light). I cleaned this out and it definetly improved the drainage im sure around and off the taillight.
However my foam seal was pretty sorry, after reading i'm probably going to get some of the 3M stuff and seal it up better for good measure.
But up to now, everything has been staying dry. Hope this helps someone..
