i was driving down the street in my 93 sho and i saw this nice contour svt, i wanted to race it... but it was an old guy driving, he didnt race. then i noticed the for sale sign on the car.i was not planning on getting another car soon, that is until i saw this one, i called him right then, drove it the next day and bought it the day after that...best thing i have ever done. one problem and a few questions.
first gear doesnt really do all that well off the line, but at 4 grand i feel it. is that normal? i know the sho has secondaries and butterfly valves open at 4 grand..oh boy did that rock... does the svt have a similar manifold?(yes, they look hella different i know)
where can i find a good coldair intake? screw shoshop!! can't trust em.
is a turbo the way to go? whats the price?
i like to know everything thats special about my special fords so any wierd stuff you know i1d live to hear it.

first the 93 sho...automatic...fun...now the svt...MANUAL...FUN!!!

Check the stickies in Duratec performance and Forced induction forums. But to answer your questions.

Yes SVT's have a butterfly valve setup like SHO's, the secondaries open at 3800RPM or full throttle. As far as being slow before that, you probably need a good tune up and UIM/LIM tear down and cleaning.

Turbo is the way to go for power if you have the money, the only company that makes a full kit for the SVT is arizona dyno chip. The cost of the kit is 5000, although i've read some where that it recently went up. You would be better off building up a Oval port 3L.

For special and weird stuff, browse the main page of this site for specifications and common quirks.

Welcome!

I replaced my totaled 89 SHO with a CSVT. The car is much more refined and the handling is far superior, but the SHO engine was a thing of beauty. It has far more torque than the SVT and revs nearly as high.

The Duratech in the SVT and other V6 Contours is of similar design to the SHO, with DOCH and long/short intake runners. The secondary runners open just below 4k on my SVT.

I plan to clean up the y-pipe soon and maybe I will find some more HP.

The SVT avlready has a cold air intake. Most of the aftermarket CAIs have the filter behind the battery, which is warm air at best.

I find out something new everyday

Didn't know my SVT had butterflies on it.. but I knew the Sentra Spec V did, the one I turned down to buy the Contour

No wonder the powerband kicks in so strong at midrange.
