I think its important when considering whether a lock or ban was justified or not to take into account the emotions involved. Its easy for a veteren of the site to start to feel justified in breaking certain rules because they may pridefully feel entitled to a higher priviledge level than others. No matter how much you give to this community it doesnt give you the right to break rules. But on the flip side, just because your a mod with powers doesnt mean you are required to fill a quota of some sort. There are times when people do abide by the rules and it is not necessary to flex your muscle just to remind yourself that you can.

I'll put it this way, if my boss were around and I opened your thread which made absolutely no mention about it not being worksafe I would have been in trouble.
Mods tend to take a lot of [censored] for locking posts, banning people, etc. because for the most part its a thankless responsibility. I can honestly say that I have never banned any regular posting member of this site. I have issued amny warnings to people and almost all of the time those people have responded to the warning in a courteous manner and the problem is solved within a couple PM or a conversation over IM. Actually I have had only two people get bent out of shape after a warning which relatively speaking isn't all that bad. Do I think some of the mods handling things poorly or at least not as good as they should, yes. Unfortunately thats the way of things though. I would like to think that this particular forum is the most liberal on the site and i think its that way for a couple reasons. One, I think EGL is the most active group both on & off of the boards and because of that many of us know eachother by more then our screen names. two, we as a whole are oldest group of active members so we're a litlle more self-policing (ala we take care of our own.) Three, I value the rights of the people I have to moderate and consider myself a member of the group... basically i don't want to be a dick abot things. (I have to see some of you [censored] on a regaular basis!)
Yeah I mess with the occasional misplaced classified thread, but if you look around I very seldom have to do anything more then that and IMO thats a good thing. As for todras...If anyone asks Todd if he deserved to be banned... i think you'd be surprised by his answer.

I agree the pic of those girls holding up the hood, was far beyond lockable. For ish sake look at the girls at SEMA - they all look similar. So does that mean SEMA is not for people under 18? Give me a f'en break.
There's got to be some sensibility to this locking/banning ish - for real.

There is sensibility...

This is not a porn or sex forum. Any topics that remotely relate will be deleted. Posting photos of barely clothed men and women is not permitted. There are those who could be fired from their job if a coworker/boss saw such photos onscreen. This can happen accidently and unintentionally if the reader is unsuspecting. All topics with such pictures will be deleted and the poster will be warned. Further abuses will be met harshly.
You may not like it, but its a forum rule and you have to abide by it.

Mark, please don't be ridiculous. How were they "barely clothed"? They were wearing shorts and long sleeved tops - AND you could not see their butt, cooch or boobs!
I think that you guys getting all "Bible Belt" on us. I think that rule was more inclined to describe pics of chicks in thongs and topless.
Please explain how something you can see in a legitimate automotive industry expo (SEMA) is OK, but not suitable for this website? If SEMA had a 18 and over regulation - then you would have a leg to stand on, but till then I will say again that this is just RIDICULOUS!

first amendment doesn't apply to a privately owned site.
i can't believe you guys are crying about not being able to post pics of girls.
and pete, get off your soapbox about the "you shouldn't be online at work". many of us surf the net during downtime or at lunch... but either way, who the [censored] are you to tell us what we can and cannot do? every web forum has rules, every place of employment has rules. they will all differ, and thus create different sets of circumstances. but, above all... as mark said, those are the forum rules. it's not like they are so difficult to understand. i thought most of us were adult enough to grasp that.

I agree 100% man, that thread did not need locking...
Shoot i can open the Sunday paper and look at targets or Kmart's paper and see more skin.
All in all its a joke and you really need to define what that rule is and how ti enforce it.
