This is why I get frustrated when the Republicans go in a tizzy over the Dems. being difficult during confirmation hearings. It isn't impossible for your own guy to nominate a goober that will make your whole party look bad (reference Mr. Brown); detailed hearings with vigorous questioning from both sides of the aisle are a critical part of the checks and balances IMO.
