Looks like Pete wants an atheist to be President. Good luck with that one.

Agnostic...I'm not athiest and I think athiest is too close minded. I am open to the idea of God and even religion.

Brown is a bloody idiot and a disgrace, period. Good riddance.

Yes, Bush picked him and it was a disasterously poor pick, but Joe Lieberman's Senate committee confirmed him, so the failure was on both sides of the fence if one wants to start casting stones. Bush damn-sure needed to put better people in certain positions, but Lieberman damn-sure should have done more than a 40-minute confirmation hearing on Brown, which is the equivalent of a "rubber-stamp" pass through the system...

I think both parties are going to be MUCH more careful on their lead agency picks from now on; those who do the initial picking and those that do the confirmation hearings...

Sooo...would an agnostic just magically govern without respect to his religious views (or lack thereof)?

Then what's the problem with Bush? Because he's open about his faith? His morals and values are stemmed from his religon, I don't think his beliefs have affected his decision making anymore than his Texas Ass-Kicking mentality..

This is why I get frustrated when the Republicans go in a tizzy over the Dems. being difficult during confirmation hearings. It isn't impossible for your own guy to nominate a goober that will make your whole party look bad (reference Mr. Brown); detailed hearings with vigorous questioning from both sides of the aisle are a critical part of the checks and balances IMO.

Exactly; there will be Senators on both sides of the aisle that will grand-stand and play partisan politics with their questions, but there's many more that are actually looking and searching with quality questions.

Confirmation hearings should be difficult in terms of flushing out the qualitifications of the person in question. Now with Miers gone (THANK GOD!), we can get back to having some serious discussions on a proven track-record, not some goat-rodeo hearing on an appointed crony.

Bush really f**ked up with Miers in that he managed to alienate just about everybody with that choice...
