I wouldn't buy an auto one for sure. I almost bought one quite a few years ago. The MTX is extremely rare. That's the only way I'd go if I really wanted one. I'd rather have a high mileage SVT Contour though.

For what they are the MN12 is a great handling car and can be just as fun as a CDW-27 if you know what you are doing with it.

Yes, MTX SCs and XR7s are very rare, as in none were ever made! They don't have Manual Transaxles! :-P The only 'rare' manual MN12s are the 90 XR7s and the 94/95 SCs. And my auto 90 XR7 was fun with a shift kit, esepcially in the DC area where 5spds suck in traffic.
And I hope being a Contour site that the majority of the people here would take a CDW-27 car over a MN12. However, I'm the weirdo I guess. Mod for mod, i'd take the SC

Personally, I would go with a Turbo Coupe over a SC. But goodluck.

The older Turbo Coupe is FUGLY! A former CEG'er went from a CSVT to a Super Coupe. It was fast, but eventually killed it's transmission and blew a headgasket.

I had an '88 TC.. It was a great car. I agree that the 83-86 models were kind of ugly, but IMO the 87-88s look great!
wontgrowup -- if it's just the accumulator that's dead, IIRC it costs about $80-100, and is a pretty straightforward repair. The pump itself is the scary $1500 part, but fortunately it doesn't crap out all that often.. Of course after 16 years, anything can break.
As far as handling goes, my '88 TC could outhandle my '93 Cougar and '93 Mark VIII. But the steering feel wasn't as good, and it could get a little squirrely--in fact one time I was cornering hard when the rear end suddenly broke loose without any warning at all.

supercoupes tend to be maintinence whores. i would look into an 87 or 88 turbo coupe considering how cheaply you can pick one up.
stazi, its great that you think that turbo coupes are ugly. it doesnt do anything for this guys question though. heck, i think your car is ugly, but what does that really do for this guys question. you never know, he may like the turbo coupe body styles. i really dont think your car is ugly, just trying to make a point.

OK....how did this thread suddenly turn into a flame war???
Anyway, I thank you guys for your candor on this....my only issue that I can forsee is having to drive this beast in the snow. And, since I live up in the "hills", the thought of driving one of these without snows isn't too comforting. I went on Craigslist and am seeing if I can find a set of snows for cheap.
