Personally theres a couple oil/filters I will ALWAYS stay away from...

1. Fram oil filters- saw one cut open one time and it had newspaper in it

2. Castrol oil, garbage IMO

3. Penzoil, garbage IMO

I've formed this opinion from years of reading here and other places, as well as personal experience (see reason #1 ) There was a HUGE oil filter evaluation here a while ago, the "old schoolers" will remember it. It would be great if someone could bring that up again FWIW, I always use Mobil 1, Mobil one filters and/or Pure One

I use Amsoil and their filters also. They have worked well so far.

Sounds like the alternator is going out again.

I found some oil test results on the web that showed Pennzoil to be the best dino oil in terms of pour point, flashpoint, ash content, etc. I had moved off to Quaker State and some others for the Minivan, but I'm back to Pennzoil. I use Mobil 1 in the Contour.

As for the issue with oil filters I printed out that forum peice and I remember that the best are Motorcraft, Purolator, Mobile 1 and K&N (made by Purolator). Of course I can't find my printout but that is what I recall. As for oil? Motor oil is motor oil unless it is synthetic, then it is "synthetic oil is synthetic oil". BUT, I may be wrong, because I have always wanted to know if there is a good motor oil. I know there is a link to "Bob the Oil Guy", but it is a forum and I can't see joining to ask 1 question and get a thousand diffrent answers. So, if there is a consensus here as to what to stay away from I'll buy it. The answer that is.

Later. Pepse.

Motorcraft and Purolator supposedly have the same innards.

Mobil 1 and K&N filters both made by Champion Labs.

5k. I don't worry about time, but it takes me about 6-8 months to get that mileage on. I had an OA done just to be sure I wasn't abusing it with all of my short-trip driving ( I live 4 miles from work). TBN was not as good as some of the guys with longer commutes, but still passable. Analyst said I could go a bit longer, but I decided to stick with the 5k interval.
