I didn't see all of his post, either. Windows is all fudged up,. have to scroll over A TON as each paragrpah is one long sentence.

I still stand by my couple 2 door alternatives, though.

The scrolling is caused by our inadequate software (a request I have already put up in the CEG Finances topic in the general forum). FavoriteMystaque and 99VCTContour put up superlong links and the rest of the topic conforms to those two.

Could a moderator edit those links and shorten them to fit the topic, please?

These are all great suggestions ... exactly what I'd expect from a bunch of people who liked the feel of a Contour. I hadn't even thought of the Protege! The Maxima was another strong choice, and I've been dreaming of an E42 BMW ever since driving my cousin's 2003 325xi a few years ago (but am at the moment concerned with high maintenance costs, especially potentially with an older car). I'm thinking of buying from a dealership or used-car lot rather than private party to avoid the "sold as-is" phrase.

Coupes are unlikely but not thrown out altogether. I have entertained the idea of an Impreza 2.5RS or a Mini Cooper (joking, they're still like 20 grand), but all in all I want to have a sedan so I can drive people around comfortably.

No Fords, for two reasons: (a) I've had *really* bad luck with the two I've owned already, and (b) parents refuse to contribute toward a Ford ... and I'm kinda relying on them in this matter. End of discussion

Thanks guys .. keep 'em coming!

Very few exist. Those that do exist are either in such poor condition the price would far exceed any reasonable budget to restore it or have already been restored and would cost a pretty penny to purchase.

Don't know if it's still for sale (was listed as sell by last Friday) but if so it's a good deal. If not check with the seller as to where it was traded in, could still be a good deal and with a potential warranty too.

the Mazda 323, 626, 929 series are pretty good and you can find them w/ manual and 6-cylinder engine.

If I didn't get my Contour, I would be driving a 626 w/ 103,XXX miles on it for $3,000.

IMO (i owned a '00 Grand Prix GT before i bought my CSVT) - for $9-14k you would be able to get a more than very decent used '00-02 grand prix GTP with less than 60k miles.

very comfortable car, and www.pfyc.com has plenty of stuff to do to it.
240HP (supercharged) is nothing to complain about, either.
4d version and '00 year would give you very reasonable insurance, and when i had mine, stock tires (don't know if you are planning on modding any) were awesome in the snow. never got stuck.
very reliable vehicle, very reliable engine (very upgradable engine, too).
i could also list for you the audio setup i had for that car - made the high school kids cry - not that that was a priority...

my .02 - go test drive one.

If I had that kinda money thrown into my hands I would first pay off the $3K or so I owe on stuff then have about $6-11K left depending on the amount.

If I had the $6K I would spend almost all of it on the Contour getting it repainted, headers, black interior and redoing my system. I would also put new gears on my truck and rebuild the top of the block.

If I had $11K left after paying bills I would spend about $4K on the Contour getting new paint and redoing the system plus gears for my truck. Then with the $7K I would buy a CSVT thats pertty much stock so I could drive it year round.
