I just upgraded 2-months ago. Running a Sony 36" HS420 HD Wega model. Becuase it is a tube the Picture is superior to everything else out there. With a family it gets used quite a bit for EDTV so the dynamics are great as it is equivalent to a 32" Widescreen when the HD comes on. I would have preferred the 40" WEGA but they are no longer made.
For a reciever I went with the Sony STR-DE997, 7.1 @ 110W/channel. Feature rich and the price was right. Retails for $499 but can be had for around $350- $400 for the STR-DE998 which is the most current model.
Onkyo HTIB are my speakers which are getting upgraded as soon as decide what I want. For anyone out there who wants to help. Budget is about $1200 but I willing to exceed that by $300 if it pushes me to something far superior. I want a large center channel with lots of output, a compact subwoofer that can get loud when desired, and two front speakers which would utilize my stands, or a slim pair of fronts. Something with a small footprint.
