So you're saying that 6.1 and 7.1 are just marketing ploys?

Depends on room size. I think what dave is getting at is that most people here don't have rooms sufficient in size to utilize 6.1 or 7.1 I use 5.1 because I have a small room for my theater and it sounds great. If I had 6.1, the rear center would be right on top of me and would be too cluttered.

By the time 7.1 has a decent amount of penetration I am sure there will be more advanced things out.

My outlaw is 7.1 yet I only run a 5 channel amp and 5(.1) speakers. I think I have 3 DVD's (out of over 125) that are 6.1 and I don't believe any that are 7.1. The source material just isn't there.

How much do you get out of that extra speaker 1% of the soundtrack? (if that)

As for the speakers, I am sure newman can come up with something better for less money, but I have been very happy with PSB speakers.

Exactly. It requires a pretty damn big room to start justifying the extra channels and marketing is certainly driving the move to more channels.

Well, I know your the king of budget speakers that sound amazing. I need the fronts(prefer floor standing),
center channel, and rear speakers.

I've actually been looking at these although I don't need a sub:

There's a 51" Toshiba Cinema Series DLP I'm looking at, but wanting some insite on surround.. I've got my eye on a Harmon Karden receiver.

I got the receiver, 14 feet of custom made component cables and a nice surge suppressor for $700.00 plus tax.

Bought it local from my audio shop.
