That's the whole problem, they have pigeonholed themselves into an intended market that is rapidly leaving the driving ranks by the minute. They need to find a way to "wow" in new customers, preferably younger ones.

Thats just it, this car better catch on with the Lesabre crew. That had to be the biggest seller for Buick ever. I swear every old person and their grandmother (literally) is rolling one!

and thank goodness they brought back the portholes! in BWTM a few weeks back they had a quote from Lutz saying that the only reason he put portholes on the car was because Maserati has them on the Quattroporte. Lutz is simply a marketing GENIUS!
Buick is a brand that should no longer exist. the Grand National is now a 20-something-year-old car. i certainly don't think of the GN when i think about automotive innovation. buh bye, Buick.

True. So funny it would have been if they kept it LaCrosse here. I guess in it they sound classier. Just like the words escargot (snails), garcon (waiter), a la mode (w/ice cream), eau de toilette(literally, toilet water, but really cologne), and celine dion (well, no that doesn't sounds classy at all )

I think it would be stupid for GM to nix the Buick name, with all the baby-boomers heading into their target age group; they stand to make a butt load of money.
Three things that Buick needs to do:
1) A RWD "Road Master" type car back in the lineup. (D/C proved this with the 300)
2) A LaSabre replacement with a V8 power plant. (Many people agree with this.)
3) A GN type model again. (They were close with the S/C Regal, but again too slow/mushy)
That with an actual management group should put Buick back on their feet.
If you look back GM did worse after dropping Olds. It stands to reason that the same would happen if they were to drop Pontiac or Buick. GM is competing with its self in many markets. They keep cutting out themselves as the competition. If the consumers don't like what Chevy or Pontiac is designing, then the buyers will go to different manufacturers (ie Ford, Toyota, Honda.)
Buick had 405,000 sales or 2.3% of the market in 2000
Buick had 300,000 sales or 1.8% of the market in 2004
Granted a lot has changed in the economy in the last four years but Buick should be gaining a market share with Olds out of the way.
