I have no problems with toyotas, atleast no more than other costly imports.
The point is, leasing isn't best thing to do. Buying a new car isn't always the best thing to do either.
Buying used is good. I have two cars. One cost about $3k almost 4 years ago, other cost $1400 a couple months ago (I over paid slightly on both). Both run very well and haven't needed anything more than routine maintenance. Insurance is about $70 a month for both of them. They both get atleast 32mpg highway. Call me crazy, but I prefer buying used over buying/leasing new.
